The number of people incarcerated in the United States has increased tremendously during the last two decades and with growth in the prison population the number of people employed at correctional facilities throughout the nation has followed suit. The "not in my backyard" syndrome means most correctional facilities are in remote locations poorly served, if at all, by traditional fixed-route transit. 24 hour-a-day staffing requirements and frequent shift changes make it complicated to serve the men and women who work in the corrections field but VPSI’s flexible, month-to-month user agreement and ability to deploy the service literally anywhere in the country have overcome these challenges.
